In 1821–1823, on behalf of King Ludwig I, a large new building was built to replace the outdated bathhouse from 1779, based on plans by Leo von Klenze and under the direction of the Würzburg district building councilor Dreyschütz. The 13-axis, three-story facade extends 42 meters long along the park. A risalit with a triangular gable emphasizes the three central axes. Window shapes that change from floor to floor, joint strips at the corners of the building and simple cornices give the building a clear structure in keeping with Klenze’s Munich palace buildings. There were bathrooms on the ground floor and guest rooms on the upper floor. In 1846, after the introduction of mud baths, the bathing building received an extension with 12 mud bath cells. In 1883 the bathing rooms were refurnished – in the first spa building in today’s Staatsbad. In 1910–1911 the bathhouse wing was built according to the plans of court building officer Eugen Drollinger.
Today the 3-star Badhotel has a total of 30 rooms. The “Altes Badehaus” restaurant spoils you with Franconian and international cuisine, and the beer garden and café invite you to relax and unwind.
