Where King Ludwig I stayed
In 1751, the two-story “Ross” inn was built as the main building. In front of the building, the slope falls into the valley in terraces, the axis of the main avenue continues. The “Ross” inn with its hall, stables and coach house was considered the social center of Bad Brückenau. In 1775, the building was expanded into a princely court on behalf of Prince-Bishop Heinrich von Bibra as a princely summer residence. The building complex, with its clearly structured and high mansard hipped roofs, served since 1818 as the residence of the Bavarian Crown Prince, later King Ludwig I of Bavaria, during his 26 stays at the Staatsbad Bad Brückenau. With the accession of Louis I to the throne, the court expanded; In 1823, Johann Gottfried Gutensohn (1792–1851) converted the stable building into a cavalier building with accommodation and utility rooms, while respecting the baroque appearance. The buildings became the property of Queen Amalie of Greece in 1873, and after 1875 they became private property; The castle hotel was bought back and built in 1924, a fundamental renovation took place in 1978–1980 and 2002, and a general renovation in 2019.
The Limes Schlossklinik Fürstenhof was established here in 2020.
