Between 1827 and 1833, the monumental Kursaal building was built next to the Badhotel on the west side of the castle park according to plans by Johann Gottfried Gutensohn. In the tradition of Italian Renaissance buildings, the building was built entirely in white sandstone and has impressive dimensions of 20 meters high, 40 meters wide and 60 meters long. On the narrow sides, wide outside stairs lead to the superstructure, around which there is a walkway open to the outside with arched pillar arcades. Inside, an anteroom leads to the central, square, two-story Kursaal. Behind the main room, the King Ludwig I-Hall, is the Lola Montez-Hall. On the upper floor above the anteroom is the royal box, which has a connection to the main room through large arched windows. The painting of the Italian Renaissance ornaments according to Gutensohn’s plans by the Munich painters Ludwig Höger and Jakob Hochbrand underlines the festive effect of the building.
Today dance events and galas, balls, concerts, theater performances and lectures take place here. At meetings and weddings, the royal atmosphere underlines the festive flair.
